AT GREEN UP VERMONT
We live our mission to keep Vermont beautiful.
Green Up Vermont’s mission is to promote the stewardship of our state’s natural landscape and waterways, and the livability of our communities by involving people in Green Up Day while raising public awareness about the health, economic, and visual benefits of a litter-free environment year-round.
Green Up Day Stats
Thanks to the help of our town coordinators we track how much trash is cleaned up, how many volunteers helped and how many abandoned tires were properly disposed of. Great work!
Can you imagine what Vermont would look like if we just left it all on the roads!
Green Up works year-round.
Although our main event is Green Up Day, Green Up Vermont works year-round to raise awareness and stewardship, create special programs, and to engage youth. Read more about our initiatives and how to get involved. Its feels great to give back!
An Easy Way to Help
When doing your taxes this year remember to donate to Green Up Vermont on Line 23 of your VT return. Even if you can only spare a couple bucks, this program really adds up and helps us keep Green Up Day alive. Your donation makes an impact.
251 Maple Saplings
Part of Green Up Day has always been about beautification. Sadly our 50th Anniversary was dampened by a pandemic, BUT we distributed Thank You gifts to every town which included Maple tree saplings and beautiful granite plaques.
Green Up Mentor Program
Green Up Vermont is working with a handful of Volunteer Town Coordinators (VTCs) willing to pilot our new Mentor Program. This program engages youth in their hometowns with their VTCs who show them what it takes to run Green Up Day.
Kids VT’s Good Citizen Challenge
This year the Good Citizen Challenge partnered with Green Up Vermont. Some of the challenges include participating in the Green Up Day contests! Kids had fun with Green Up contests and received points for the challenge.
Best Bag for the Job! We checked!
Many ask why we don’t use a more organic bag. In a nutshell, when you bury any trash bag in a landfill – paper, compostable or plastic – they all take decades to decopose without oxygen. Using recycled content makes sense and has the least carbon footprint.
In the fall we assisted and heard stories about groups getting out and greening up through-out the year. Green Up Vermont was happy to supply left over bags and promote their events on our social media. We look forward to building more Stewardship Partner relationships.
People Love Green Up Day
Don’t take our word for it – here is what a few of our friends have to say:
“We found that the roads were much cleaner this year! We heard from many people that have been cleaning them up as they take their daily walks. We had a great a turnout, every road was covered!”
Volunteer Town Coordinator
Town of Barnard
“Of all things to cancel, Green Up Day shouldn’t be one of them.”
Comment on Gov. Scott’s Facebook page
“There should be Green Up Day once a year in every state.”
“Yes. Taking care of this beautiful little state should always be done. Not one of us wants to ever let Vermont be not valued and taken care of. My home state. Blessed I was to have been raised there.”
