CONTESTS FOR STUDENTS K - 12

POSTER . . . . WRITING

These Green Up contests provide a great way to involve young people constructively in promoting a good clean environment and encouraging pride and respect.

For over twenty years, students statewide have participated in the Green Up Day poster design contest. The winning design, printed in full color, appears throughout the state on general store bulletin boards, outdoor kiosks, in schools and businesses and other places to catch attention and encourage people to take part in Green Up Day.

We encourage thoughtful adults to make the opportunity known to students K through 12. Numerous times notes from teachers tell us "the kids had a great time doing it." The contest provides reason to focus on taking care of our communities and the environment and respect for fellow citizens and nature's animal life. Green Up is about Vermonters taking care of Vermont.

WRITING - "WRITE UP FOR GREEN UP!"

Our very first "Write Up" contest started January 2007. We wanted an opportunity for "a little litter literature," for literary expression. It was great, and now we can't wait for more to come, year after year, annually each and every year.

Students are invited to write their thoughts about Green Up in the form of a poem or an essay of up to 400 words.

For submission details, see contest information.

Winners, when announced (February/March), will be posted on the website.

Green Up's mission is to promote the stewardship of our state's natural landscape and waterways and the livability of our communities by involving people in Green Up Day and raising public awareness about the benefits of a litter-free environment.
